What is an NSSO Enumerator?
- Also called Field Investigator / Survey Enumerator
- Works under NSSO (now part of National Statistical Office – NSO)
- Primary role: collect real-world socio-economic data from households & businesses
Responsibilities
- Field Data Collection (Main Job)
- Visit households, shops, farms, enterprises
- Conduct face-to-face interviews
- Fill survey schedules (digital/tablet or paper)
- 👉 Surveys include:
- Employment / unemployment
- Consumer expenditure
- Health, education, MSME data
- Explain purpose of survey to respondents
- Build trust and ensure cooperation
- Maintain confidentiality of data
Interaction with Public
Must Have
- Data Recording & Accuracy
- Record answers accurately and completely
- Cross-check responses before submission
- Maintain field notes and observations
- Extensive travel within assigned area (urban + rural)

In Bangalore region:
- Can include nearby districts in Karnataka
- Daily field visits are common
Reporting
- Submit daily/weekly progress reports

- Field Officer
- Supervisor
